UK Visitor Guides App Launch a Success

The launch of Resort Marketing’s latest app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch in October saw over 4,000 visitor guides downloaded in just one week. Demand for the Official UK Visitor Guides app remains strong (out of season), which further demonstrates the company’s view that there is a substantial demand for destination marketing information on mobile and tablet platforms.

Unlike location aware apps, developed to aid a visitor on the ground in a particular location, publishing a printed visitor guide on the App Store is a great way of attracting potential visitors to a destination in the first place. Of course there is also the option for destinations to have their own visitor guide app created and published directly to the App Store – those taking that route for 2012 will also have their guides added to the Official UK Visitor Guides app free of charge.

Featuring your destination’s 2012 visitor guide in the Official UK Visitor Guides app costs just £595 ex vat. Many locations have already signed up for 2012 – don’t miss out, see the website below or contact Brian Cooper on 01305 770111 for further details.

Mobile Apps go from Strength to Strength

Since we launched our first mobile apps in August 2010, we now have 12 apps live on the Apple App Store. We have been producing e-reader style mobile apps for tourist destinations, which have proved popular with clients and the public alike.

Our latest apps all include active web and email links. Telephone numbers can also be made active if required. The apps also include a statistics package, integrated with Google Analytics, meaning the client can see the download and usage data for their apps 24/7.

For further information on our app development work, please check out the Mobile Apps section of our website.

Full Picture: Putting Dorset on the App

Full Picture has created a free application for the iPhone, iPad and iPod which puts the popular ‘Resort Dorset & the World Heritage Coast’ magazine in front of a whole new audience.

Resort Dorset App

The magazine, which was first published in 1992, promotes the whole county with features on Dorset’s towns and villages, eating out, shopping, leisure activities and much more. It is distributed each year from Easter until September through venues right across Dorset. With the new app, available through Apple’s App Store it can now be viewed the world over!

This first version of the app allows users to view all pages of the publication on screen, zooming in when required and swiping across the screen to change pages. There is also a pop-up strip of thumbnail pages, which allow for quick navigation to any page in the magazine. The app will be under constant development and there are some exciting features planned for future versions.

Resort is published in three further editions which cover the counties of Cornwall, Southern Devon and South Hants. An out-of-season Dorset edition is also published each year.

All editions will be available through the App Store in the near future. To visit the iTunes page for the Dorset app, please click here.

Putting Retailers in the Full Picture

DSCF9524-copyFull Picture are delighted to have spent the past few months working through writer and editor Michael Speirs on the design of retail training books and associated training and publicity material for NBM Global Knowledge – a major new enterprise based in Brussels, founded by veteran experts of the retailing industry.

The project complements our growing portfolio of work for the training sector, which already includes training material for Electrolux, also produced in association with Michael Speirs Associates, and the Training Finder website. It also demonstrates our ability to work with clients overseas as well as those closer to home.

The first suite of seven books, “Retail Sales Leaders”, has just been launched as a series for self-education in the basics of retail management. According to Paula Baptista, the company’s CEO and primary author of the books, they form the first-ever complete training course for individuals with little or no formal education in retail. The books are written and designed in an accessible, educational and easily understandable style, with a focus on practical, hands-on hints and tips. Those are complemented by concrete examples, as well as tools such as checklists, tables and diagrams and exercises for individual completion. Initially published in English, the books will shortly be available in Dutch and later German, with other languages to follow.

Working with Michael Speirs, we look forward to helping NBM Global Knowledge share their industry expertise further in the months and years to come. For more information, please visit the NBM Global Knowledge website.
