August 5, 2010August 4, 2010Full Picture: Putting Dorset on the AppFull Picture has created a free application for the iPhone, iPad and iPod which puts the popular ‘Resort Dorset & the World Heritage Coast’ magazine in front of a whole new audience. The magazine, which was first published in 1992, promotes the whole county with features on Dorset’s towns and villages, eating out, shopping, leisure activities and much more. It is distributed each year from Easter until September through venues right across Dorset. With the new app, available through Apple’s App Store it can now be viewed the world over! This first version of the app allows users to view all pages of the publication on screen, zooming in when required and swiping across the screen to change pages. There is also a pop-up strip of thumbnail pages, which allow for quick navigation to any page in the magazine. The app will be under constant development and there are some exciting features planned for future versions. Resort is published in three further editions which cover the counties of Cornwall, Southern Devon and South Hants. An out-of-season Dorset edition is also published each year. All editions will be available through the App Store in the near future. To visit the iTunes page for the Dorset app, please click here. July 23, 2010A New Status

The project complements our growing portfolio of work for the training sector, which already includes training material for Electrolux, also produced in association with Michael Speirs Associates, and the Training Finder website. It also demonstrates our ability to work with clients overseas as well as those closer to home. The first suite of seven books, “Retail Sales Leaders”, has just been launched as a series for self-education in the basics of retail management. According to Paula Baptista, the company’s CEO and primary author of the books, they form the first-ever complete training course for individuals with little or no formal education in retail. The books are written and designed in an accessible, educational and easily understandable style, with a focus on practical, hands-on hints and tips. Those are complemented by concrete examples, as well as tools such as checklists, tables and diagrams and exercises for individual completion. Initially published in English, the books will shortly be available in Dutch and later German, with other languages to follow. Working with Michael Speirs, we look forward to helping NBM Global Knowledge share their industry expertise further in the months and years to come. The British Resorts & Destinations Association (BRADA) is a body representing some 60+ local authorities, 12 commercial operations and 18 tourist boards in the UK. Its purpose is to provide a ready source of background information and key contacts for use by the travel and travel trade media. Full Picture was asked to redesign the Association’s annual printed guide back in 2000. Since then, the guide, and indeed the Association have gone from strength to strength. The Problem BRADA not only wanted a printed guide but also required a website that would allow access to the background information on popular UK resorts and destinations. This would need to be kept up to date with accurate information. Each local authority member needed a page promoting their destination, and every commercial member also needed a text entry. The Solution Full Picture designed a content-managed website that allowed each local authority and commercial member to update their online page. Every member is able to login and edit their page on the website, changing text, events and images as they wish. When it is time to prepare the printed guide, members can simply login and approve their entry by clicking a ’sign-off’ button. This then gives us the green light to prepare their page in the printed guide using the copy provided online. Not only does this dramatically save administration, but it also gives members confidence that their instructions will be correctly interpreted. The advanced technology operating behind the scenes is designed to streamline processes wherever possible. Finally The BRADA project is just an example of one solution; the exact functionality can be tailored to your own precise specification. If you operate an association or body with members and face similar problems when producing your own promotional material, please get in touch.
